MARILLA PALMER

Anthomania

June 12th - July 18th 2021

Marilla Palmer is known for nature-based installations, sculptures and botanical collages.
In the pandemic lock down Palmer moved with her family from Brooklyn to her Lakeville, CT home, an area long familiar to her
being fourth generation in the Northwest Corner.
In spite of this ancestral history it was the first time she experienced the complete change of seasons in the region.
Waiting for the first blooms of Spring became an obsession. When they came it was exhilarating. They had names and provenances.
A rare few were native wildflowers but many were world travelers.
We were no longer allowed to travel but the foliage that Palmer saw represented
the gardens of the world: peonies from Eurasia, tulips from Turkey, nasturtiums from Mexico,
searching for the native poppy, delphinium and columbine.

Palmer became an anthomaniac.

Palmer has exhibited her work at Kathryn Markel Fine Arts in New York City and Bridgehampton, Blue Print Gallery in Dallas, Los Angeles,
and locally at IceHouse Project Space and Darren Winston Bookseller.
