YVONNE ESTRADA

Liminal Numinous

August 28th  - October 3rd, 2021

In this recent body of work artist Yvonne Estrada looks to the poetics of abstraction and synthesis in her visionary, liminal, works on paper.

She states: “My process like automatic writing, emerges in the flow of stream of consciousness, it is also a form of meditation
where intellect and the desire to control is better left out of the studio. I’m interested in the poetics of abstraction and synthesis”

Indigo and other blues have been present in her work on paper or canvas for a long time.
Ultramarine however, with its electric, bewitching hue has taken over unapologetically and has been pivotal in the development of her language.

Yvonne Estrada has been drawing for as long as she can remember. Started art school in Bogotá at age 17 and
continued studies in New York while being the recipient of several scholarships and grants.
She has shown at Jason McCoy Gallery, Von Lintel Gallery, The Rotunda Gallery / BRIC and Wave Hill, Glyndor Gallery among others.
She has been the recipient of The Joan Mitchel Foundation Painters Grant, The NY Foundation for the Arts Painters Grant,
The Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture Grant among others.

Her work is included in The JoAnn Gonzalez Hickey Collection, The Dian Woodner Collection, J. P. Morgan, Chase Manhattan Bank, New York,
The Art Students League, New York, and many private collections in the US, Europe and South America.
